School Counseling Credential

Description:

The school counseling credential is required of persons serving counseling and guidance functions beyond the advisory duties customarily performed by classroom teachers. A teaching credential or experience is not required. The credential holder is authorized to work in California public schools from kindergarten through grade 12.

The counseling credential requirements include:

  1. Undergraduate course work in the behavioral sciences
  2. Specific graduate courses including practicum and field experience.
