Portfolio Requirement

Starting Fall 2006 all ETEC students are required to create an Electronic Portfolio as soon as they start the program. Both ETEC 444 and ETEC 523 courses help students to develop and improve their portfolios. Following are some resources and a guideline for creating e-Portfolios developed by Dr. Lamkins.

ePortfolio Guidelines

Your eportfolio should be completed reflecting your coursework in the ETEC MA program, as well as any other programs and degrees that lend to your professional growth as an educational technologist. The eportfolio should reflect your progress through the program and include examples of your work which demonstrates your development and learning, as well as competency in all coursework. Your portfolio should be manageable without being too abbreviated and be available to faculty as you progress through the ETEC MA program. You are encouraged to maintain your eportfolio after you have completed the program as a professional growth and communication tool.

ePortfolio Content

The content of your portfolio should come from the MA in Educational Technology program courses as well as any other courses or workshops you have completed that contribute to your development as an educational technologist. You may submit any examples of your work, so long as the portfolio includes material from your required courses, and includes the specified minimum number of examples from each. Artifacts should demonstrate the variety and breadth of material within each course. The weight given to each section and category is specified below.

A. Professional Development. This section of the portfolio should contain the following.

  1. A letter to the reviewer. This is similar to a cover letter.
  2. Autobiography. This should include personal as well as professional highlights of your life. It should be inviting yet professional in nature.
  3. Educational Technology Philosophy/Teaching Philosophy. 1-2 page statement organized around at most 1-2 main ideas.
  4. Resume/Vita. This should include an attached resume that the viewer can download easily.

B. Course Work. This section of the portfolio will demonstrate your level of mastery of the competencies within your coursework. Each of your courses that you have, or will take, should be listed and divided into 3 sections.

  1. Course Title, Number and Description. This section should include the official course title and number along with the official course description from the university catalog.
  2. Artifacts (a minimum of two and a maximum of four entries). Include samples of coursework that demonstrate learning, growth and competency. Include descriptions of the assignments and /or activities and the expected student learning outcomes.
  3. Reflection. This section should include a reflections on the course as a whole as well as why certain artifacts were included from this course. It should be written in the first person (I, me, and mine).

C. Educational Technology Skills. This section of the portfolio will demonstrate your level of mastery in the use and teaching of technology. It should be divided into 3 sections.

  1. Personal Technology Skills. This section should include a list of the technologies you regularly use personally. It should include traditional technology, peripherals, hardware and software.
  2. Professional Technology Skills. This section should include a list of the technologies you regularly use professionally. It should include traditional technology, peripherals, hardware and software and may include items from your personal technology list.
