School Psychology FAQ Detail
PPS Credential/Masters School Psychology
- How do I obtain course waivers for classes I’ve taken at another university?
- After you've applied and offered enrollment in the CSULB School Psychology program you will meet with an adviser who will provide guidance on obtaining course waivers for prerequisites and/or core courses. Please note that a maximum of 6 units is transferrable to the program, not including prerequisite courses. Additionally, there are 8 courses that are not waivable. Please see our website under 'Courses' for information regarding specific classes.
To obtain a general idea of courses that may be equivalent to our prerequisite and/or core courses, please review the official catalog description of the course you took at another university and compare it to the CSULB official catalog description of the course you wish to waive. If the descriptions are similar, it may be waivable/transferable. Please note, however, that there is no guarantee that a course taken at another university will meet our program course requirement.
When you are offered admission to the program and have been advised to petition for course equivalency, you will need to petition to have the course waived. The process is as follows: 1) obtain and complete a petition for course waiver available in the EDPAC office or at http://www.ced.csulb.edu/edpac/documents/CourseEquivalency.pdf 2) attach supporting documents as outlined in the petition (e.g., official catalog description, official transcripts showing you took the course and your grade, syllabus); 3) return the documents to the EDPAC office for consideration. The documents will be routed to the instructor who teaches the specific class in which you are seeking equivalency. He/she will assess whether the course taken at another university meets the objectives of the CSULB course.
