School Psychology Overview
The school psychology credential program is a 60 unit course of study that prepares students to receive a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential in school psychology. Classes are held in the late afternoon (4PM) and evenings to accommodate students who work during the day.
A master's degree in a behavioral science (e.g., psychology, child development, social work) or education from an accredited University is required to complete the school psychology credential program. Students who do not have a completed master's degree when they begin the program must complete the joint Educational Psychology Master's Degree/School Psychology Program.
On average, students complete the credential program or joint program in 3 to 4 years. The program cannot be completed in less than 3 years. This includes two to three years of full time (9-12 credits per semester) and one year of full-time internship.
Bilingualism, biculturalism, and/or experience with public school students who are culturally and linguistically diverse are an asset to applicants, as well as a strong academic record and good interpersonal skills.
