ITEP Educational Specialist, Level I Application Instructions

This supplemental application and a faculty interview are required before you can be admitted into the professional preparation segment of the ITEP-Education Specialist program.

Submitting the Education Specialist Application with the ITEP-Multiple Subject Application:  Submit the entire Multiple Subject (MSCP) application packet, as well as this supplemental Education Specialist application and your statement of intent for the Education Specialist program to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center, ED1-67.   This must be done the semester before you take EDEL 300.  Be sure to complete the application in full, attach documents listed on the reverse of the MSCP application, and sign the application.  Failure to do so will delay processing and may result in your not being admitted to professional preparation courses.

Submitting the Education Specialist Application After Admission to ITEP-MSCP:  Attach an unofficial copy of your current CSULB transcripts with your statement of intent to this application and bring to ED1-67 before the deadline date.  After your application is reviewed, you will be contacted regarding your faculty interview.

Deadlines:

  • March 1 if EDEL 300 will be taken in the following Fall semester
  • October 1 if EDEL 300 will be taken in the following Spring semester
  • August 1 if EDEL 300 will be taken in the following Fall semester

Statement of Intent:  Please attach a 1-2 page statement of intent that tells us about you.  We are interested in knowing the following:

  • How did your interest in special education begin?
  • What are your goals and how does our program fit your goals?
  • What experience, training, and talents do you bring to the area of special education?

Interviews:  Interviews with Education Specialist program faculty will be conducted with candidates after applications are formally reviewed.  After interviews are completed, each applicant will be informed in writing of the decision of the faculty regarding acceptance into the program.  Upon acceptance into the program, candidates will be assigned a faculty advisor for program advisement.  All students admitted to the Education Specialist Credential Program must comply with the policies outlined in the Credentials Section of the University Catalog.
