Asian Languages-English BCLAD Program ChoicesThe Asian Languages-English BCLAD (Bilingual Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development) emphasis added to the Multiple Subject Credential authorizes holders to teach in classrooms where the Asian language of emphasis is used for instruction and in situations where teachers use the target language for explanation, preview-review, and interaction with families. In addition, teachers completing BCLAD may teach in English Language Development and general education classrooms. Candidates in Asian Languages-English programs must demonstrate the ability to communicate fluently in the target language by the end of the program. Bilingual communication and teaching competence are assessed through courses, examination, and the student teaching practicum. Program offerings are available in Cantonese, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
