Careers
If you would like a career where you can make a difference, consider
teaching or one of the many other professions in Education.
A particularly high need exists for teachers in Mathematics, Science,
and Special Education, and for speech and language specialists. As a prospective
teacher in any field, you can make yourself more employable by being flexible
– in the geographic areas where you’ll teach, in the grades
and subjects you’re willing to teach, and by being willing to sponsor
extra-curricular activities. You might wish to consider teaching at the
middle school level, where rapid enrollment growth is taking place. If
you’re interested in School Administration, you can also look forward
to excellent employment opportunities.
In addition to positions for elementary,
high
school, and special
education teachers, the field of Education offers many opportunities
for related employment, from pre-K through college: counselors
and school
psychologists, Marriage
and Family Therapists, reading
specialists, library
media specialists, school
administrators, and professionals in student
development in higher education. Other professionals employed
in the schools include speech
and language specialists,
school
social workers, and teachers
of adults.
