HIGH SCHOOL MENTOR (paid) - CollegeSpring, LA area

CollegeSpring, a non-profit organization that partners with high schools in the LA area to provide SAT prep and college readiness services to students from low-income backgrounds, is looking to hire undergraduates as paid mentors for Spring 2018! Open to all majors, mentors work 4-10 hours a week during the spring semester tutoring small groups of high school juniors to prepare them for the SAT and for college. This is a paid position and mentors receive training and all lesson materials.

Keys*To*Learning (K2L) has been servicing the South Bay LA area for the past 25 years and is looking for tutors to instruct all studies from grades 1-12, including test preparation, as well as working with ELD and Special Needs students.

The pay rate is from $17 to $30 per hour depending on skill level and experience. Bonuses offered every six months to those who assist students with a specific amount of completed tutoring hours: 120hrs = $500, 96hrs = $375, and 72hrs = $250.

Even those who have not yet begun a credentialing program – or who are still in the process of earning their credential - may be eligible to lead one of Green Dot’s middle or high school classrooms if they:

  • Have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant content area, and
  • Have passed the California Basic Skills Exam (CBEST) or have qualifying SAT scores (or qualifying scores from an equivalent exam)

MUSEUM EDUCATION INTERNSHIP (paid)- Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, Long Beach

The Museum Education Intern at Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site will develop the curriculum for the site’s new educational outreach initiative, “Long Ago in Long Beach.” The goal of this program is to expose students to local history through a series of activity-centered, content-rich history lessons delivered in after-school daycare settings around Long Beach, as well as engage families through extension activities and onsite programming.

WHO WE ARE: Long Beach BLAST is a nonprofit academic mentoring organization that serves at-risk youth in the Long Beach Unified School District. Through our longstanding partnership with the Center
for Community Engagement (CCE) on campus, BLAST has been matching CSULB students with Long Beach youth in grades K-12 for academic, social, and emotional development for over 17 years. Academic mentoring is a form of service learning, which allows students the opportunity to apply what they learn in class to real world experiences.
GET STARTED: Many of the professors we work with utilize our program as a method for their students to gain experience, as well as learning about today’s youth. No matter if your course is on education,
