Preliminary SB2042 Credentials - Appeal Information for Expiring Multiple and Single Subject Teaching Credentials

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has amended Title V Regulations to address expiring SB 2042 Preliminary Multiple and Single Subject teaching credentials.

It is important to note that these new amendments do not change the clear credential requirements of employment and completion of a CTC-approved Induction Program, rather they allow teachers additional time to complete existing SB 2042 clear credential requirements under current statutes.

Three appeal options are now in place for extensions of time for preliminary SB 2042 credential holders whose five-year credentials are expiring.

• A two-year extension has been approved for an individual employed in a position that allows completion of the clear credential requirements, but who needs additional time to complete these requirements.
• A three-year extension has been approved for an individual who has not completed the requirements to earn a clear credential, and who is not employed in a position that allows completion of the clear credential requirements.
• An individual who receives a three-year extension of a preliminary credential may extend the credential for an additional two years if he or she gains employment in a position that allows completion of the requirements after the three-year extension has expired.

To apply for an extension follow the application process listed below:

• Download the credential application form from the Commission website at www.ctc.ca.gov
• Complete all required paperwork, and include all required documentation
• Submit the credential application and credential fee directly to CTC
• Mail the application package to CTC, Box 944270, Sacramento, CA 94244-2700, or if using a delivery service address the application package to CTC, 1900 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95814-4213
