Educational Adminstration Application Process

What programs are available to students interested in Educational Administration?

The College of Education offers two entry-level Educational Administration Programs: The Master of Arts in Education with an option in Educational Administration and The Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, which is required for employment as an administrator in California Public Schools.

Although the two programs are not identical, the course requirements for both programs are congruent. While not required, we recommend that students pursue both the master’s degree and the Administrative Services Credential simultaneously. This option provides students with additional skills, which are most beneficial to school leaders in today’s diverse schools/districts.

Additionally, a program option for the Professional Administrative Services Credential is also available. Applicants for this program must currently hold a position requiring a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (See separate website for program description). Before applying to the program, contact a program faculty member for advisement.

Who is eligible to apply for the Educational Administration Program?

Individuals who have passed the CBEST and possess a baccalaureate degree and a valid California credential; or a services credential with a specialization in pupil personnel services, library services, health services, or clinical rehabilitation services; or a designated subjects credential and a baccalaureate degree are eligible to apply to the program. Preference is given to individuals with three or more years of full time experience in credential field.

Is it necessary to take the GRE for application to the program?

GRE scores are not required for application to the Master of Arts in Education, Option in Educational Administration Program or for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Program.

What is the deadline for program application?

There is a two-track application process to enroll in the Educational Administration Program, application to the University and application to the program. The deadline for submission of both applications is March 1.

• Application to the University through the CSU Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate Admission Application – Be sure to complete all sections of Part A and Part B of the application. Return University materials (with official transcripts) to Enrollment Services in Brotman Hall. Application to the University may also be completed online at www.csumentor.edu
• Application to the Educational Administration Program in the College of Education
  Please provide all appropriate materials listed on the application form to support your application packet. Return program application materials for the master’s degree and/or the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential to the College of Education Graduate Office in ED1, Room 7.

Application to the University through the CSU Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate Admission Application must be submitted to and approved by the University before qualified candidates will be accepted into the Educational Administration Program.

Where can I obtain application materials for the program and for the University?

Educational Administration program application materials may be obtained from the display racks outside of the College of Education’s Graduate Office, ED1-7 or they may be obtained online from this website in the Documents section.

How many sets of transcripts are required for the program application process?

Each applicant must submit two sets of official transcripts. One set will be included in the University application and one set will be submitted with the Educational Administration program application submitted to the College of Education Graduate Office.

What are the entrance requirements for the Master of Arts in Education, Option in Educational Administration Program?

Program applicants for the Masters of Arts in Education, Option in Educational Administration must:

1. Separately apply to and be admitted to the University;
2. Possess a minimum 2.85 overall GPA for the last 60 semester units and provide a set of official transcripts;
3. Complete and submit an EDAD Program Application (application may be obtained from this website);
4. Submit a resume;
5. Submit a 2-3 page double spaced personal statement describing 1) your educational preparation, 2) your experiences as a teacher or other educational professional, highlighting examples of our own leadership at your site/district, and 3) your general philosophy of leadership which includes your beliefs on inclusiveness, diversity, and serving children and the community. Your statement must be clear, concise, and mechanically correct.
6. Submit two non-confidential letters of recommendation, one of which must be from your current principal or supervisor attesting to your leadership potential and adherence to moral and ethical standards of behavior (Non confidential Letter of Recommendation Guidelines are available from this website and should be completed and attached to each letter of recommendation);
7. Pass the Writing Proficiency Exam (MA candidates only). This may be completed within the first semester of admittance to the program;

What are the entrance requirements for Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Candidates?

Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Candidates must meet all of the entrance requirements for the Master of Arts in Education, Option in Educational Administration and provide the following additional requirements:

1. Provide documentation of passing CBEST;
2. Possess a baccalaureate degree and a valid California credential; or a services credential with a specialization in pupil personnel services, library services, health services, or clinical rehabilitation services; or a designated subjects credential and a baccalaureate degree;
3. Preference is given to individuals with 3 or more full years of experience in credential field.
   Additionally, Preliminary Administrative Services Credential candidates must complete the following exit requirements:
4. Satisfy state requirements for mainstreaming;
5. Provide verification of three years experience in credential field;
6. Present professional portfolio demonstrating candidate’s competency in each of the Standards of Candidate Competence and Performance for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.

Are there additional components of the application process?

Following the receipt and review of application materials by program faculty, qualifying applicants will be invited to participate in a small group oral interview. Each applicant will compose and submit an on-site impromptu writing sample at the time of the group oral interview.
