Overview: Mission of the Educational Technology ProgramThe CSULB educational technology program prepares its graduates to capitalize on the potential of educational technology to improve learning. In connection with this mission, the program educates graduates who understand technology in relation to its societal and cultural context, critically evaluate benefits and limitations of technologies, and build on ways of using technology towards socially positive ends. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in schools, educational institutions, and other agencies; it also provides training in instructional design, multimedia development, E-learning, and builds a foundation for individuals planning to pursue doctoral degrees. Graduates of the option learn strategies for applying theoretical perspectives to use technology in the service of practical problems. They learn to evaluate, design, develop, and effectively use technology for educational purposes. The educational technology program supports the mission of the College of Education, including the goal that the College prepares socially-responsible leaders for a rapidly-changing, technologically-rich world. Likewise, the program supports the mission of the University, which, in part, is to promote intellectual and personal development and to prepare students for life-long learning as well as preparing them to succeed in a variety of professional endeavors and to function as informed, contributing members of the communityInstruction emphasizes the ethical and social dimensions of all disciplines, as well as their applications to contemporary world issues. In pursuing these goals, we collaborate with programs and departments within CSULB as well as with school and agencies in the broader community.
