Ed. D. in Educational Leadership
In Summer 2007, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) was one of the first campuses in the California State University system to offer an independent doctoral program, Ed. D. in Educational Leadership. This program represents a major achievement and advancement in the history of higher education in California and addresses the demand for highly qualified educational leaders for P-12 school districts and community colleges. Representatives from P-12 school districts and community colleges work collaboratively with CSULB faculty and administrators to design, implement, and evaluate this program.

Information sessions cover the details of the application process and program requirements, provides a brief introduction to the program of study and what to expect in the program, and provides an opportunity to meet doctoral program faculty. It is recommended that all prospective students attend at least one session.

Program Overview

Two program strands are offered
- Educational Leadership in the Pre K-12 School Districts
- Educational Leadership in the Community College/Higher Education

Students are admitted each summer term
- Classes begin in June
- Cohort model facilitates the development of learning communities and professional networks

Full-time study is required
- 7-9 units each semester
- Summer study is required
- 60 unit program designed to be completed in 3 years

Intended for working professionals
- classes are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends
- coursework designed to accommodate and benefit from the full-time employment of program participants
Admission Requirements
- Masters degree in Education or a related field
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in upper division and graduate coursework
- Demonstration of sufficient preparation for, experience in, and potential for education leadership
Who Should Apply
- The program prepares educational leaders for Pre K-12 and Higher Education settings and is designed for working professionals who seek to further influence educational policy and decision making.
- Pre K-12 specialization graduates will increase their capacity and knowledge for positions as principals, superintendents,lead teachers, and other school site administrators.
- Higher Education specialization graduates will be prepared for critical positions at both 2-year and 4-year institutions as college presidents, student support service administrators, and other administrative leaders.
Application Process
- Cohort VI begins Summer 2012, the application deadline is February 15, 2012.
