School Counseling Field Work

  1. Application for a Certificate of Clearance is required for public school field work. Apply at least one year prior to the expected first field work semester.
  2. An Application for Field Work (obtain from the Graduate office, ED1-Room 7) must be submitted and approved prior to enrollment in each of the two semesters of Field Work. The Field Work Application deadlines are: March 1 for the Fall and summer semesters; October 1 for the Spring semester. EACH SEMESTER OF FIELD WORK REQUIRES A SEPARATE APPLICATION.
  3. 2005-2006 Field Work Prerequisites:
    1. 1st semester Counseling Field Work, COUN 643A (300 hours per semester, 20 hours per week);
      1. COUN 607; EDP 536 must be taken concurrently with either COUN 643A or 644A
      2. Certificate of Clearance
    2. 2nd semester Advanced Counseling Field Work, COUN 644A (300 hours per semester, 20 hours
      per week);
      1. COUN 507, 638, 643A; EDP 536 (or concurrent enrollment in 536)
      2. Verification of passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) (see below)

Note:

School Counseling Field Work must be completed independently of field work that may have been completed in other Master’s Degree programs, or in the Pupil Personnel Services School Psychology Credential Program. Only hours completed during enrollment in COUN 643A or COUN 644A are acceptable.
Field work hours are to be completed during the regular school day; therefore, full-time teachers and other students with full-time day-time employment must modify their schedule accordingly.

Certificate of Clearance:

The issuance of a credential by the State of California may be precluded by a criminal record. In certain cases, special consideration may be obtained by contacting the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Direct specific questions regarding your particular situation to:
