Academic Advising

Ongoing academic advising is available by appointment at the Department of Liberal Studies. We highly recommend that current CSULB Liberal Studies students come in for advising at least once a year.

Advising Options

Individual Advising

Students meet one-on-one with a Liberal Studies advisor. The program planner is updated and reviewed, progress is evaulated, and various deadlines are discussed. These appointments are suitable for students who have questions or problems of a personal nature, or who prefer to meet individually. These appointments are also available to student who are on probation and those seeking reinstatement into the university. Individual appointments are limited to maximum of 30 minutes unless an extended advising session is approved by an advisor.

Group Advising

Students meet with a Liberal Studies advisor in a group setting with students in the same program. Freshman mandatory Fall advising will be conducted in a group setting. Those students who are interested in declaring Liberal Studies as a major must attend an Open File Workshop, which is also conducted in a group setting. Time will be alotted at the end of the session for individual questions.

Walk-in

Available for students who have general or quick questions. Walk-in advising is handled on a first-come first-serve basis and is limited to a maximum 15 minutes. Students with more specific or complex issues or concerns will be recommended to schedule an individual appointment with an advisor. During this time, students may phone-in to speak with an advisor. Calls will be answered in the order in which it was received and based on the availability of the advisor.
