Biography

Nancy Strow Sheley received her Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Kansas (2001), a BA in English from Murray State University (KY), and an MA in English from the University of Illinois.  Before her hire at CSULB, she taught Washburn University (KS), CSULB, West Virginia University, The University of Alabama, Appalachian State University (NC), and in several high schools. 

Dr. Sheley's research interests include Children's Literacy, 19th-Century Women Writers, Primary Education in Rwanda, and Visual Culture.  In 2004, Dr. Sheley received a Fulbright-Hayes Travel Award to study Post-Genocide Rwanda. 

Her publications include articles in American Art, American StudiesKansas English, and Resources in American Literary Studies (RALS)

Currently, she holds a joint appointment in Liberal Studies and in English.
