Huong Tran Nguyen, Ph.D.

Prior to becoming a faculty member at CSULB, Dr. Nguyen brought over 21 years of experience as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, Engilsh language development specialist, professional development leader, and program specialist (administrator) in grades K-12 in three Calfiifornia urban public school districts. In 1994, while teaching at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, she was selected by her peers as National Outstanding Teacher of the Year and National Outstanding Teacher of Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language, an event sponsored by Disney in Washington, DC. Subsequently, she was invited to serve as a senior fellow (1995-96) at the U.S. Department of Education under the leadership of U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley during President Clinton's administration.

Her research interests include educators’professional identity, models for teacher education and professional development, language acquisition, socio-cultural contexts of teaching and learning.
