Bio

Professor Trini Lewis received her doctorate from Boston University with a specialization in literacy and language development. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a California teaching credential from UCLA. She is a tenured associate professor in the Teacher Education Department. 

Professor Lewis teaches literacy courses in the elementary and secondary school credential programs.  She has extensive public school experience working  in bilingual and gifted and talented settings, and as a reading specialist in elementary and middle school settings in Los Angeles, California; San Antonio, Texas; New Bedford and Brockton, Massachusetts.  

Additionally, Professor Lewis coordinates and teaches in the Master of Arts in Education degree program with an option in Dual Language Development (DLD). She enjoys mentoring graduate students and supporting their development. Prior to her postion at CSULB, Professor Lewis taught at Dean College and Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Professor Lewis was a co-principal investigator of a FIPSE grant award in the amount of $300,000.00 from the United States Department of Education/Office of Post-secondary Education. The grant funded a successful project at CSULB to develop exemplary instructional specialists serving culturally and linguistically diverse student populations in urban secondary school settings.
