University Application

CSULB Admission:  Prospective students should first apply to CSULB in order to obtain a registration date to register for the Program Prerequisite courses.

  • The deadline for admission to the University for Spring 2012 is November 15, 2011.

Education Specialist Credential Program Application

  • Students must be enrolled in or have taken at least 3 of the 5 prerequisite courses in order to apply to the credential program.
  • The deadline for Winter/Spring 2012 application to the Education Specialist Credential Program is October 1, 2011.
    We will accept application packets in ED1 - Room 67 beginning August 1, 2011.
  • The deadline for Summer/Fall 2012 application to the Education Specialist Credential Program is March 1, 2012.
    We will accept application packets in Ed1-67 beginning January 2, 2012.

Please note that deadlines are firm and applications to the credential program and the university are not accepted after these deadlines.

Credential Program Admission:  Complete credential program application packets must be submitted to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center in ED1-67, prior to the application deadline. Candidates who pass the paper screening will be invited to an interview with program faculty. Admission decisions are based on a thorough review of the application materials and the interview with program faculty.

Candidates must meet the following admission criteria to be eligible for the Education Specialist Program:

  1. Demonstration of Subject Matter Competence through passage of the CSET: Multiple Subjects (Scores valid for five years from date of test passage and must be valid at the time credential is completed)
  2. G.P.A. of at least 2.75 for the last 60 semester or 90 quarter units or 2.67 overall G.P.A.
  3. All parts of CBEST attempted (passage of CBEST is preferred); for a list of CBEST alternatives, please visit http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl667.pdf
  4. Completion of a field experience of 45 hours in a K- 12 general education setting
  5. Verification of CTC Fingerprint Clearance
  6. Verification of TB Clearance
  7. Two letters of recommendation, dated and signed within last 2 years; on official letterhead
  8. Personal essay
  9. Photocopies of all transcripts
  10. Enrollment in or successful completion of at least three program prerequisites
  11. Submission of a complete program application packet prior to the current deadline
