Course Equivalencies
If you have previously taken teacher preparation courses at another institutions, you may submit a petition for a course equivalency to determine if that course is the same as a required SSCP course here at CSULB. If it is determined that a course is the equivalent, you will be exempt from taking that same course in the program.
-
This does not apply to EDSS 300, EDSS 450, EDSS 473 and student teaching (All of these courses are mandatory at CSULB).
-
Keep in mind that teacher preparation courses expire after 7 years, including course equivalencies, which means that all courses and course equivalencies must be current, no older then 7 years, by the time you finish student teaching.
If a course meets these requirements you can submit a Petition for a Course Equivalency request providing the following documentation:
-
Course Equivalency Petition form
-
Photocopy of the official course description from the catalog of the institution where you took the course. The description must be from the year in which you took the course.
-
Photocopy of your transcripts verifying completion of the course. Web print-outs from other institutions will not be accepted.
-
A course syllabus if possible (mandatory for course equivalencies petitions for EDSE 436, 435 & 457).
-
Include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want a copy mailed to you. Otherwise the SSCP office will notify you of the results via e-mail.
Completed course equivalency packets must be submitted to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center located in ED1 room 67.
The packet will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty member or department office for review. Once the petition is reviewed, a copy will be mailed to you if you supply a self addressed/stamped envelope, otherwise you will receive the results via e-mail. Please allow 6-8 weeks for this process to be completed (during the summer this process may take longer.)
- If you are tranfering from another credential program and plan on submitting two or more course equivalencies from another institution, CSULB will require a Letter of Good Standing from that institution.
If a course is more than 7 years old and you would like to request to extend the life of the course to allow you to student teach provide the following documentation:
- Request to Waive the 7-Year Limit on Credential Coursework
- Unofficial Transcript (MyCSULB printout), verfying completion of course
- Explaination of what you have been doing since taking the course to remain current on course topics.
Submit you completed packet to the Teacher Preparation Advising Center located in ED1 room 67. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the evaluation. You will be notified via email of the results.
The following courses have been pre-approved as a course equivalency. If you take or have taken one of the following courses you will need to submit a Course Equivalency Petition Form along with a copy of your transcripts showing when you took and passed the course to the Single Subject Credential Program Office to have the course waived.
