Tests & Assessments

To earn a California State credential, candidates must pass several high stakes tests and assessments.

CBEST: Candidates must pass all portions of the CBEST exam to earn their credential.   As a condition of entry into the SSCP at CSULB, all three portions of this exam must be attempted.  The CBEST exam must be passed to advance to student teaching.

CSET: Candidates who do not have subject matter competence through coursework must fulfill this component by passing the CSET exam in the designated subject.  Candidates do not need CSET scores to be admitted into the SSCP; however, passing scores are needed prior to advancing to student teach.

CalTPAs:  California Teacher Performance Assessments are state mandated tasks embedded in the SSCP coursework at CSULB.  To earn a California state credential, all candidates must pass all four CalTPA Tasks with a score of a 3 or 4.

US Constitution Test:  Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the US constitution to teach in the state of California.  This component may already be filled if the candidate completed a degree at a California State University, if not there is a test that can be taken to fulfill this requirement.
