Welcome to the SERVE ProgramCollege of Education Adjustment to State Budget CrisisDue to the state budget crisis, all CSULB faculty and staff are required to take unpaid furlough days during the year. All College of Education offices will be closed 17 days between August 13th and June 30th. In addition, each staff member must take 7 personal furlough days. Consequently, responses to various types of requests for services (walk-in, mail, email, telephone) from college offices may be delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience. All College of Education offices will be closed on the following days: 8/13, 8/21, 9/8, 10/9, 11/2, 11/25, 12/31, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, 3/26, 3/29, 4/21, 5/6, 6/4, & 6/18. Please note that these are budget-related campus closure days. College offices will also be closed on the normal holidays identified on the campus calendar. For information on the university’s response to the budget crisis, please go to http://www.csulb.edu/about/budgetcentral/. The SERVE (Service Experiences for ReVitalizing Education) Program creates an opportunity for students at the undergraduate level, in particular for those who are considering careers in K-12 education, to learn about the realities of urban classrooms and the needs of the diverse K-12 student population. SERVE interns work with students individually and in small groups to provide academic support and encourage personal growth. It is through this involvement that CSULB students assess their careers goals and provide direct service to students and teachers in grades K-12 and their communities. The SERVE Program is a Long Beach Education Partnership Project. It is administered through the Center for Collaboration in Education. All students requesting SERVE placement must be enrolled in the university for the entire semester of their SERVE assignment. America Reads/America Counts Federal Work Study Program : Students receiving Federal Work Study awards are invited to participate in the SERVE program as readers or math tutors to children at risk.
