SERVE Profile

We at the Center for Collaboration in Education strongly believe that the work our SERVE students perform with elementary students is of great benefit not only to the SERVE student, but to the elementary student as well. In order to document the effect of the SERVE student's efforts to raise educational achievement in our Partnership Districts, we are asking you to pilot the Data Collection Profile.

To the instructors of English 309 and EDEL courses who have agreed to require their students to pilot the SERVE Profile form, please list this requirement in your syllabus and start your students off in the beginning of the semester with collecting the "pre" data on 3 students. If you need additional blanks and instruction forms, they are available through the SERVE Office.

Service Learning

For all instructors whose students need service-learning placement:

  1. All students must be trained before obtaining placement. If training is not included in your course, please direct students to our website for information and schedule of Training Sessions which is found under "Students" on our Home Page.
  2. All students must be cleared for placement. 1) A current copy of a TB test certificate (within the last 12 months), 2) a completed "Volunteers in Public Schools" (VIPS) form and 3) Fingerprinting (Livescan) and Department of Justice screening is needed for the clearance process. The VIPS and Livescan request forms are available through the SERVEoffice and are also distributed at SERVE Orientation Sessions.
  3. The Livescan/DOJ service is provided by CSULB University Police ($52.00).
  4. Students may request placement in any of our Partnership Districts and will be placed in the corresponding schools by each District Office.
  5. Students may request placement in conjuction with their paid aide position. This process is explained at the Orientation Sessions.
  6. Students can access their file/placement information with their login password on this website.
