U.S. Constitution Requirement
The California Education Code
(Section 44335) requires all candidates for the basic credential (Multiple
Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist) to demonstrate knowledge
about the United States Constitution. This requirement must be completed
before the credential can be granted. The U.S. Constitution requirement
can be met by satisfactory completion of one of the following:
- Complete an approved college level course at a regionally accredited
community college or university:
- At CSULB, the approved courses are Political
Science 100 or Political Science 391.
If an equivalent course has been taken at another institution,
provide the Credential Center, ED 1-42 with an official transcript
showing the course and a copy of the course description.
- Complete
an approved college
level examination at a regionally accredited
college or university
- Approved examinations available at CSU, Long Beach are:
- Credit
by examination for POSC 100 (CSULB enrolled students only)

Constitution Exam Center for Career Studies
Walk-ins welcome Monday - Friday 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- 4:00 p.m. There is a $30.00 exam fee (cash or personal check). Study
guides are available for $5.00 in the Center for Career Studies Office. The
Center for Career Studies is located in ETEC 237. Call (562) 985-4698
