Deadlines

The semester prior to student teaching, students must attend a meeting to obtain a student teaching application. Watch for these meeting dates on the Single Subject and English Education web sites and bulletin boards. They usually occur early during the semester.

The meetings for Spring 2009 student teaching:

Thursday, August 28, 2008: 5pm-6pm: MM-100

Wedneday, September 3, 2008: 1pm-2pm: MM-100

Monday, September 8, 2008: 12:30pm-1:30pm: MM-100

Tuesday, September 9, 2008: 4pm-5pm: PH2-110

Friday, September 12, 2008: 3pm-4pm: AS-244

Saturday, September 13, 2008: 10am-11am: AS-244

Application submission deadline is Wednesday, October 1st, 2008.

Reminder: You must submit passing CBEST/CSET/PRAXIS/SSAT scores with your application by the October 1st deadline in order for you to student teach in Spring 2009.

Please check this page regularly for additional or updated deadline information.

For more information, see your credential subject area advisor or contact the Single Subject Credential Program office in ED1-67 (phone [562] 985-5326).

Complete all paperwork and the requisite number of copies. Keep a copy of everything for your own records. Make an extra copy of your personal statement and your transcripts to give to Professor Johnson when you meet with her during her office hours to sign up for student teaching and secure her signature. She will not sign the application without these documents. If you are demonstrating subject matter competency via an exam or completion of an approved subject matter program at another university, you must bring two copies of exam scores or the letter from the university.

All applications must be turned in by March 1 for summer and fall student teaching and by October 1 for spring student teaching. Candidates must secure Professor Johnson's signature and submit their completed application to the Single Subject Office by these dates. Students who have applied to student teach in the past but have withdrawn their applications for one reason or another are also held to these firm deadlines. No exceptions will be made.

Summer Student Teacher Placements

Limited Student Teacher placements for English teachers will be available for Summer 2008.

Applications for Summer Student Teaching are due to Professor Johnson in MHB-505 on or before March 1, 2008

Remember, placements are limited, and spaces will be randomly determined by lottery.

Attention!

Beginning with the 2007-08 testing year, there will no longer be printed test bulletins for the CBEST, CSET (including the new bilingual subtests for BCLAD authorization), RICA, and CTEL examinations. Test bulletins will be available on line at the web sites for downloading if a printed copy is desired. We expect that the new bulletins for 2007-08 will be available online after June 2007. Printed test flyers indicating all of the exam dates and registration deadlines, however, will go out as usual.

Candidates are encouraged to use the web sites for exam information and to register for exams.
