Other Forms of Program Support

The Science Education Department at CSULB has many programs and projects to support the growth and development of our secondary science teacher candidates.

The Association of Future Science Educators is a club which meets monthly. Topics will address content, pedagogy and professional development for K-12 teachers of science.

The Math Science Teacher Initiative is a Chancellor's Office initiative to increase the number of math and science teachers credentialed on campus. The MSTI program will reimburse candidates up to $300 worth of program related costs. You will register for MSTI benefits during EDSS300C. You will be eligible for reimbursement upon filing for your science credential.

The Robert C. Noyce Scholarship Program is a National Science Foundation grant to support math, science or engineering majors committed to teaching in high need schools. Stipends of $15,000 per year are available. Scholars tutor in partner schools and complete their student teaching at those sites. In return for funding scholars will teach in high need school districts (2 years for each year of funding).

APLE grants, TEACH grant and other programs are also available to help defray the costs associated with getting a credential.

Young Scientists Camp is a summer camp at CSULB. Preservice teachers are hired to work alongside mentor teachers to develop and teach the camp. This is a paid position and provides teaching candidates with excellent experience and professional growth.
