Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA)
CSU Long Beach uses the California Teaching Performance Assessment (CalTPA) to meet the SB 2042 requirement for a program-embedded teaching performance assessment. All candidates must pass each of the 4 Tasks of the CalTPA with a minimum score of 3 on an ascending 4 point scale in order to be recommended for an initial California teaching credential. Candidates are directed to the Candidate Handbook for a full description of the CalTPA, each of the 4 Tasks, and the scoring rubrics, as well as for guidelines for completing each Task. Candidates may access the Candidate Handbook, the 4 CalTPA Tasks, and the Task scoring rubrics at the links below. More information on the CalTPA is available on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website: http://www.ctc.ca.gov/educator-prep/TPA.html
TPAs are now known by their name and no longer by numbers. The following are the new names for the TPAs:
- Task 1 = Subject-Specific Pedagogy
- Task 2 = Designing Instruction
- Task 3 = Assessing Learning
- Task 4 = Culminating Teaching Experience
