About UsThe Department of Teacher Education (TEd) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), is a complex and continually evolving department comprised of approximately one hundred full- and part-time faculty members and thousands of students. Located in the midst of a multicultural, urban environment, we are one of the four major units within the College of Education (CED) in a university of approximately 35,000 students. Our university is the largest of twenty-three in the California State University (CSU) system, one of the largest university systems in the world. This department is noted in Southern California for preparing outstanding teachers through our academic programs which are authorized by California law and accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Our teacher preparation and graduate programs have the additional distinction of being approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Our programs have been undergoing continual change in the last two decades to meet the diverse needs of students, the unprecedented demand for teachers in California, the challenges of a technologically-rich society, and the public demand for increasing accountability for our nation's teachers and students. Our rich interconnections and diversity is apparent by sampling our features section. In order to fulfill our mission, we are guided by various statements which unify us in philosophy. We have strong alliances with partner units on campus who are also responsible for preparing teachers, and our efforts are supported by numerous support offices which assist in conducting our work. Some years we have employment opportunities for faculty seeking full-time, tenure-track positions, and we frequently seek highly-qualified part-time instructors to teach in our programs. You can find our offices at the southernmost part of campus near Seventh Street. |
