ITEP-MSCP Asian Languages - English BCLAD - Course of StudyTo help meet the increased demand for qualified Asian bilingual / bicultural teachers, six Los Angeles area California State University campuses have formed an Asian BCLAD Consortium. The Consortium offers a unique inter-campus collaborative program through which qualified candidates may earn a BCLAD Multiple Subject Credential in Cantonese, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin, or Vietnamese. (Total units: 49 plus BCLAD test #6) Courses are listed in recommended sequence. Prerequisites (3 units plus an interview)
Corequisite Courses (9 units)
Asian BCLAD Requirements(6 units plus BCLAD subtest #6 in a target Asian language) Both culture and bilingual pedagogy courses may be taken before admission to the MSCP Program and must be completed prior to student teaching. The BCLAD exam may be completed during student teaching. See Asian BCLAD Consortium Coordinator for information.
Subject Specific Pedagogy Courses (15 units)Students must be admitted to the Multiple Subject Credential Program to take the following pedagogy courses. It is recommended that EDEL 442 and EDEL 452 be taken concurrently.
Student Teaching (16 units)One semester before taking EDEL 482D and 482E, students must attend a Student Teaching Application Meeting and submit an application to student teach at the beginning of that semester. BCLAD student teachers must meet the alternate grade placement requirement, and their BCLAD experience must be approved by the school principal, University Supervisor, and BCLAD Advisor. Students must participate in the required orientation series the week prior to the beginning of the student teaching semester. Student teaching is a half-day, two-semester responsibility.
