Spanish-English BCLAD in México Program

The curriculum of the Spanish/English BCLAD in México Program consists of three major components:

  • Linguistic development in Spanish,
  • Methodology and practice in classrooms, and
  • Immersion in the Mexican culture

A language exam will be administered to ensure applicants possess adequate Spanish language skills. Successful applicants will be:

  • Individuals with moderate fluency in Spanish who need to solidify language skills through an immersion experience
  • Individuals with oral fluency in Spanish, but who lack academic usage; and
  • Individuals with academic and oral fluency in Spanish, but who lack cultural experience.

See Spanish/English BCLAD in México Program Course of Study for a description of courses and timeline for this year-long program held in part in California and part in México.

Award of Credentials:

Upon satisfactory completion of all segments of the program, the CSU International Teacher Education Council (ITEC) recommends participants for either the CLAD or BCLAD credential.   Candidates must achieve the requisite level of written and oral Spanish language competence and knowledge of Latino culture to be awarded the BCLAD credential.
