Reading CertificateThe Reading Certificate program provides advanced preparation in reading/language arts assessment and instruction, clinical and field experience, as well as theory and research in teaching reading and language arts, grades K-12. This 15-unit program is intended for elementary and secondary teachers who desire advanced preparation in reading/language arts curriculum, assessment, instruction, and intervention. The focus is on designing and implementing appropriate reading/language arts programs for all children and youth, including English language learners. Related programs in reading and language arts at CSULB
include the Reading/Language
Arts Specialist program (30 units, of which 15 are the Reading
Certificate program) and the Master of Arts in Elementary
or Secondary Education: Specialization in Reading (a 36-39 unit
program which includes the 30 units in the Reading/Language Arts
Specialist program).
Additional requirement prior to completion of the Reading Certificate Verification of three years of full-time teaching experience while holding a preliminary or clear credential.
